Sumitra Mahajan

Sumitra Mahajan was born on April 12, 1943 to a Chitpavan Brahmin family in Chiplun, Maharashtra to Usha and Purushottam Neelkanth Sathe. She holds Masters and Bachelors of Laws from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, formerly Indore University. Sumitra maintained a clean record in her political career and was known as a leader of simplicity and honesty. She did many development projects in Indore during his tenure as minister. She has made many public speeches and lectures on the teachings of Mahabharata and Geeta, Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar.

Political Career of Sumitra Mahajan

Sumitra was the Chairman of the Indore Municipal Corporation from 1982 to 1985 and the Deputy Chairman of the Indore Municipal Corporation from 1984 to 1985. In 1989, she was elected to the 9th Lok Sabha for the first time. From 1990 to 1991, she was an advisory member of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the President of the Mahila Morcha, the women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh.

She was re-elected to the 10th Lok Sabha for a second term in 1991.
