Commonwealth Games gold medalist, two-time Olympian and winner of many other honours, Manika Batra is one of the true stars of Indian table tennis.

At Tokyo 2020, Manika Batra became the first women’s table tennis player from India to reach the 32nd round in a singles event at the Olympics.

Biography of Manika Batra

Manika Batra was born on June 15, 1995 in Delhi, she is the youngest of three children. She started playing TT when She was 4 years old. Her childhood life was not easy as She changed many schools for better training opportunities and ended up at Hansraj Model School. She won the state championship in the under-8 category.

After that, She decided to be trained by trainer Sandeep Gupta. Eventually, She became the top player of Delhi and then in the state level tournament. Later, he went to Jesus and Mary College, but it was difficult to go to college.

She was still involved in training and travel, so he left JMC and went for correspondence and BA program at DU. She even received a retirement plan which She left to focus on table tennis. Many people advised her to quit acting and opt for acting, but she continued to pursue her dream.

Manika Batra’s Carrer

Nothing can break Manika Batra’s mind because she always decides to do what she really wants. In the under-21 Chile Open in 2011, She won the silver medal making the whole country proud. But that was just the beginning of Manika’s glorious journey. Manika represented India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She became a quarterback. In the 2014 Asian Games, Manika also made the fourth round. At the 2015 Commonwealth Tennis Championships, She won three medals; two silver medals in women’s singles and women’s doubles and bronze medals in women’s singles.

Also at the 2016 South Asian Games, Manika Batra shines as a star player winning three gold medals. She made women’s doubles, mixed doubles and women’s singles. In addition, she qualified for the women’s singles event in the 2016 Summer Olympics after Manika Batra won the 2016 qualifying tournament in the South Asian team. But, unfortunately, she lost in the first round of the women’s singles event.

In the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Manika won the gold medal in the final with a brilliant performance.

The win made history at the Commonwealth Games as Singapore’s women’s tennis team had not won since tennis was introduced to the sport in 2002. The win propelled Manika Batra to the position of shining bright.

Additionally, she won India’s first silver medal against Mouma Das in the women’s doubles category. In this tournament, Manika became the first Indian woman to win a Commonwealth gold medal by defeating Singaporean player Yu Mengyu. Manika Batra once again made history when she received the ITTF’s ‘The Breakthrough Star Award’ on December 12, 2018.

Manika went on to play qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 tournament. But they lost in the quarterfinals against France. Well, this loss can’t change her mind as Manika continues to prepare for the upcoming games.

Manika Batra Performance in the Olympics

Manika had a disastrous campaign at the Rio 2016 Olympics, where she exited the competition in the first round. But it’s a learning curve for a young tennis player. Ranked 61st, Manika Batra will play the first game to climb to the top 32. However, she is one of the top scorers in the two leagues with her partner Achanta Sharath Kamal.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award 2020

The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awards, announced in 2020, are the first of their kind. This time, the award was given to five people. Football player Manika Batra, Indian women’s hockey team captain Rani Rampal, wrestler Vinesh Phogat, cricketer Rohit Sharma and cricketer Mariyappan Thangavelu are the recipients of this award.

Manika became the youngest of the lot to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in 2020 during an online ceremony for her commendable performance in tennis. She made his sporting debut in 2014 and is eager to make table tennis a household name.

Manika Batra is the top tennis player of India. She won a historic gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games for his immense dedication. The Indian star is ranked 63rd in the world rankings. She is currently the highest ranked Indian tennis player.

On top of that, his signature move includes playing a long button at the back. It’s the rubber that the best players don’t play. Manika has defeated her competitors so far, this is just the beginning for her.

First Indian woman to win singles gold

With her eyes set on her goal, Manika Batra made her mark in the world of sports by setting fire to the Commonwealth Games 2018. She became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal by defeating Singapore’s Yu Mengyu . The 24-year-old paddler from Delhi dominated the women’s singles event, and victory has now become her dream. She won four medals in four competitions, including two gold, one silver and one bronze.

Batra Get Three gold medals at the 2016 South Asian Games

Manika Batra made India proud with her golden hat trick. Se bagged three gold medals from the 12th South Asian Games in 2016. The Indian singer participated in the women’s singles competition with Pooja Sahasrabudhe. She played with Anthony Amalraj in doubles and Mouma Das and Shamini Kumaresan in singles.
