Vinesh Phogat, born August 25, 1994, is a respected international wrestler representing India in the 53kg weight class and became the first Indian wrestler to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Asia. Vinesh Phogat Career
Vinesh started wrestling in his childhood under the strict supervision of his uncle. Along with his cousins, he was not supported and allowed to participate in Desi Wrestling matches. He was the topic of conversation after winning the international bronze medal in the 51kg category at the 2013 Asian Wrestling Championships in New Delhi at the age of 19.
Later that year, he excelled at the Commonwealth Games, winning a silver medal in South Africa. In 2014, she won her first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, defeating English wrestler Yanna Rattigan in the 48kg weight category. He also won the bronze medal by defeating Mongolian wrestler Narangerel Eredenesukh by a score of 10-0 in the 48kg weight category at the Asian Games. He won the silver medal at the 2015 Asian Games in Doha.
After that, he qualified for the Rio 2016 Championships but injured his knee in the quarter-finals of a loss to China’s Sun Yanan. He made his long-awaited comeback in 2018, winning a silver medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships and a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games for the 50kg weight class.
Later that year, she became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games by defeating Japanese wrestler Yuki Irie. In 2019, she had a chance to win the bronze medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships by beating Chinese wrestler Qianyu Pang and the gold medal by beating Russian wrestler Ekaterina Poleshchuk at the Yasar Dogu International. Phogat’s Achievements
Vinesh Phogat first made his mark in the international arena at the age of 19, when he won the bronze medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships in New Delhi in 2013 in the 51 kg category. She followed this up by winning silver at the Commonwealth Games in the same year, in South Africa. However, her defining moment came the following year at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Vinesh, who moved from the 51kg weight class to the 48kg weight class, beat favorite Yanna Rattigan of England in the final to win the gold medal.
